COUNSELOR EDUCATION PROGRAM -- North Carolina Central University

Hello everyone,

My name is Kaila Butler, and I’m a graduate student in the Clinical Psychology program. I’m currently conducting my thesis research, and I’d love your participation!

My study is focused on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and how they may relate to adult depression, anxiety, and self-esteem among HBCU students. This research is important because it highlights the unique experiences of students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities voices that are often underrepresented in psychological research. By participating, you’ll be helping to shed light on how early life experiences can affect our mental health and sense of self in adulthood, and how we can better support students in higher education.

Why this matters:

  • Your participation contributes to research that centers the experiences of HBCU students.

  • Findings can inform more culturally relevant counseling approaches and campus resources.

  • It’s a chance to directly impact how mental health is understood in our community.

The survey is anonymous, takes about 10–15 minutes, and your responses will be used only for academic research.

If you’re willing to help, please click the link below to participate:

Thank you so much for considering this! Your voice truly matters in helping us better understand and address mental health at HBCUs.
