School Counseling Internships in Wake County Public Schools
Please note that students are not permitted to contact schools, central office, or Human Resources to request their own school counseling internship placements. Wake County accepts placement requests only from the designated university placement contact and for NCCU that is Dr. Taheera Blount. All requests must be submitted in accordance with established procedures and due dates.

What do students submit? Which of the following applies to you?
Students requesting WCPSS placements for the first time:
1. Online CRC (Criminal Records Check)
2. Return completed health form to university placement contact
Students who have been previously cleared by WCPSS:

Students who are WCPSS Employees:
WCPSS employees who wish to student teach must have permission from their immediate supervisors (typically the principal) in order to be cleared as student teachers or interns. The university placement contact, not the student, is expected to communicate with the principal to obtain this permission.

- Students must be cleared by Human Resources before reporting to any WCPSS campus.
- WCPSS ID Badges are available to cleared student teachers and full-time interns. Students must contact Ed Stansberry at (919) 854-1716 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to schedule appointments to have their ID badges made. Walk-ins are strongly discouraged. ID badges are not provided for pre-service students.
- WCPSS Email Accounts: Principals can contact the helpdesk to request email accounts for their schools’ cleared student teachers and full-time interns. Only the principal can make this request. WCPSS email addresses are not provided for pre-service students.
