COUNSELOR EDUCATION PROGRAM -- North Carolina Central University

Barry University’s PhD in Counseling

An Inclusive Program within a Multicultural Metropolitan City

Located in Miami, Florida, Barry University’s Department of Counseling is now accepting applications to our PhD in Counseling with a specialization in Marital, Couple, and Family Counseling/Therapy for Fall 2015.

The PhD in Counseling program is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), the premiere national accreditation for Counseling programs that signifies that the accredited program meets the highest training standards of the counseling profession. Barry University's PhD in Counseling program was the first doctoral program to be CACREP-accredited in South Florida.

Barry's Counseling faculty are committed to preparing our students to excel as practitioners, educators, and researchers. You will understand diverse cultural practices, master a body of knowledge related to the profession of counseling, and critically examine social practices, institutions, hospitals, private practices, and other social sites.

The on-site Family CARE Center offers a wide variety of supervised training experiences for doctoral counseling students.  At the CARE Center counselors-in-training gain supervised clinical experiences as well as supervision-in-training opportunities.  Financial assistance is available through grant-funded programs.  This involvement strengthens our students’ resume and portfolio and gives them an edge when applying for internships and jobs.

Our program is oriented to meet the needs of working professionals. Classes are held in the evenings Monday through Thursday. Our classes are also small, which gives you the opportunity to receive personal attention from Barry's distinguished faculty.

If you are interested in joining Barry University’s doctoral program or have any questions, contact Karen Shatz, PhD, Doctoral Program Coordinator. Application deadline is April 1, 2014.
