COUNSELOR EDUCATION and SUPERVISION Ph.D. PROGRAM
The Counselor Education and Supervision program at The University of Tennessee invites applicants for our CACREP-accredited Ph.D. program. Join an outstanding and award winning program that earned 2nd Place in the ACA Ethics Case Study Competition in 2013 and Honorable Mention for counselor education identity and counselor preparation by NBCC in 2010.
Our program mission is to prepare students for work as counselor educators, clinical supervisors, and advanced practitioners in academic and counseling settings. Doctoral students participate in teaching, supervision, and research experiences during their program. An active Chi Sigma Iota chapter offers leadership opportunities for doctoral students.
Students in the program can earn Graduate Certificates in Evaluation, Statistics and Measurement; Qualitative Research Methods in Education; Grief, Loss, and Trauma; and Online Teaching and Learning. For more information on these certificates, visit http://epc.utk.edu/gradcertificates.html
At The University of Tennessee, we accept both full-time and part-time students. Graduate assistantships are available for full-time qualified applicants. Graduate assistantships include tuition, health insurance, and financial assistance in the form of a monthly stipend. We have a strong record for securing university fellowships and graduate assistantships for incoming and continuing students.
Faculty members demonstrate a commitment to our doctoral students and their professional development by providing significant personalized attention. Students and faculty regularly collaborate on research projects, co-author journal publications and co-present conference presentations. Program faculty members have a special interest and research focus related to counseling youth and children. Additionally, several faculty members are currently editors or editorial board members of scholarly journals and/or hold leadership positions in state and national counseling associations.
The University of Tennessee is located in Knoxville, the third-largest city in the state of Tennessee. Nestled at the foot of the Appalachian Mountains along the Tennessee River, it is within a day’s drive of many major metropolitan areas. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is a short 45 minute drive from Knoxville, and provides local outdoor activities including hiking, boating, biking, fly fishing, and horseback riding.
