Student Newsletter
Welcome back to school!
We hope that you enjoyed your summer and that you are excited and gearing up for the 2023-2024 academic year! Classes for the fall semester are set to begin on Monday, August 14th. Syllabi and online course shells will not be available for students until classes begin.
Faculty will return to campus next week, starting on August 8th. There are meetings scheduled for faculty and staff all week, so please be patient as we get back into the swing of things.
As mentioned in an earlier newsletter, we have a new faculty member joining us this fall, Dr. Bredell Moody (see below).
Fall Textbooks
Don't forget that textbook information is ALWAYS available on the Program's website: http://www.nccucounseling.com/student2/index.php/course-info/textbook-list-sheet
Unless you have to purchase through the University bookstore, please feel free to order your texts through whichever site you choose. Just make sure that you will receive them before your courses begin. Most courses will have reading assignments within the first week of school.
Welcome Dr. Bredell Moody
The Counselor Education Program at North Carolina Central University is pleased to announce the hiring of a new faculty member: Dr. Bredell Moody.
Dr. Bredell Moody (he/him/his) is an Assistant Professor in the Counselor Education Program at North Carolina Central University. He received his Ph.D. in Counseling and Counselor Education from North Carolina State University.
Before joining NCCU, Dr. Moody served as the embedded counselor for the NCSU graduate school and the Wilson College of Textiles. He was also a behavioral therapist at Avance Psychiatry and the Avance Care Centers of Excellence in Raleigh, North Carolina. He is a licensed clinical mental health counselor, provisionally licensed clinical addiction specialist, and certified clinical trauma professional. He has worked with diverse populations – people from different ethnicities, cultures, socioeconomic status, and different stages of development. His scope of practice includes addressing emotional and behavioral concerns, mood disorders, trauma, anxiety, depression, addictive behaviors, grief, stress management, anger management, and self-esteem concerns.
His research interests include terror management theory, police brutality, racial trauma, Black/African American coping and healing after trauma.
Canvas!
As you have probably heard, NCCU is changing "learning management systems", also known as LMSs. We changed from Blackboard to Canvas at the end of June.
Some instructors have been piloting Canvas over the last academic year, so some students may already have some familiarity with Canvas.
All courses offered this fall (and later) will be delivered via Canvas.
