Description: This presentation will explore the healing and coping experiences of Black men who have survived police brutality. The presentation will explore how one’s self-esteem, worldview, and purpose are developed, affected, and contribute to the coping process after experiencing police brutality. Police brutality is traumatic, and research has shown that the mental health concerns that emerge after being exposed to trauma can be persistent and impactful.
Objectives:
- Attendees will be able to identify the significance of self-esteem, worldview, and meaning in life after experiencing trauma
- Attendees will be able to analyze trauma and healing through a terror management theoretical lens
- Attendees will be able to evaluate their current approach to working with this population
