Counseling, Counselor Education, & Supervision (Ed.D.) Program Mission
The UNC system's mission is to contribute to the solution of societal problems and enrich the quality of life for residents of the state. In that same spirit, North Carolina Central University, with a strong tradition of teaching, research, and service, prepares students to become global leaders and practitioners who transform communities. NCCU’s Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Counseling, Counselor Education, and Supervision program has a complimentary mission to train its doctoral students to be ethical scholar-practitioners who transform communities from the urban and rural areas of NC through evidence-based counseling, supervision, teaching and advocacy practices and interventions. Our vision is to equip our graduates with the knowledge, attitudes, and skills to address the world's most critical problems, specifically those related to mental health, health, wellness, and social justice, through evidence-based mental health practices and interventions in pursuit of a better future for our world. In accordance with these concepts, our curricular discussions have included possible unique concentrations in addictions, tele-mental health delivery, and global mental health.
The faculty will prepare graduates to be highly skilled clinicians, supervisors, and leaders in the profession. Students who graduate from the Ed.D. program in Counseling, Counselor Education, and Supervision will have advanced training in counseling and counselor supervision – and be prepared to serve as leaders (and advocates) in mental health organizations (public and private) at the local, regional, state, or national level.
Note: SACS-COC Accreditation is currently under review and pending. Faculty will be seeking CACREP accreditation within the first year of the program.
