COUNSELOR EDUCATION PROGRAM -- North Carolina Central University

Dr. Levette DamesThe Counselor Education Program at North Carolina Central University is pleased to announce the hiring of a new faculty member: Dr. Levette S. Dames.
 
Dr. Dames holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Counselor Education from the University of South Florida, and a Master of Education degree in School Counseling from Kent State University.  Both are CACREP-accredited counselor education programs.
 
She has been a registered nurse (RN) for more than twenty years and a school counselor for ten years (overlapping), specializing in career counseling. She has worked in hospital settings, high schools, and elementary schools. She has experience teaching both undergraduate and graduate students.
 
While at the University of South Florida, Dr. Dames developed and organized a Career Development course for student athletes - with the assistance of Dr. Debra Osborn, a past president of the National Career Development Association. She served as the president of the Florida Career Development Association during the 2011-2012 academic year.
 
Her research focuses on career development for student athletes and persons diagnosed with a chronic illness. She hopes to help develop programs geared toward improving career thoughts for these groups. She is also looking at programs like “Second Step”, a social skills program that focuses on improving school counseling programs.
 
Dr. Dames refers to herself as a “Bahama Mama” and is a native of the Bahamas.
