The Career Counseling program at North Carolina Central University is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) for both in-person and online delivery. The accreditation runs through October 31, 2030.

All of our programs are IRCEP-approved programs.  IRCEP (the International Registry of Counsellor Education Programs), from their website, "promote(s) the ongoing development and recognition of the counselling profession worldwide through the creation of a registry of approved counsellor education programs that use common professional requirements essential to the education and training of counsellors regardless of culture, country, region, work setting, or educational system". North Carolina Central University is accredited by SACS-COC (Southern Association of Colleges and School Commission on Colleges), and programs in the NCCU School of Education (particulalry the school counseling program) are accredited by CAEP (Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation).

The Counselor Education Program at North Carolina Central University is recognized as a Criteria C program by the North Carolina Addictions Specialist Professional Practice Board (NCASPPB). Our Criteria C program requires students to complete 12 credit hours of addiction specific training and an internship. The 12 credit hours consist of four online courses - and then a 300-hour internship at an approved facility that provides addiction specific treatment.
