On Saturday, March 29, 2025, the University hosted the Graduate and Undergraduate Research Symposium—Eagles Vision: Seeing Beyond Academic Boundaries. There were several poster presentations (i.e. Psychology) of which our own Trent Stamer submitted an entry called Examining Client Access, Satisfaction, and Wellness at NCCU’s Eagle Counseling Clinic. Congratulations to Trent for winning first place for the Behavioral and Social Sciences category.

Research Mentors: Dr. Lupton-Smith & Dr. Beckwith, Counseling and Higher Education, North Carolina Central University Examining Client Access, Satisfaction, and Wellness at NCCU’s Eagle Counseling Clinic

This ongoing study is currently collecting data regarding the satisfaction, wellness, and accessibility of counseling clients at the NCCU-based Eagle Counseling, Consultation, and Research Clinic (ECCRC). Created by the Counselor Education program, the ECCRC provides training for clinical Research examining clients’ experiences in counseling is sparse and few studies focus on the experiences of clients at a university-based community clinic. Additionally, this examination will address important issues connected to the access and engagement of clients who receive counseling from a university-based clinic founded in wellness, social justice, and multiculturalism. For the method of data collection, screened and consenting ECCRC clients are administered four surveys containing both quantitative and qualitative items; with survey administration occurring to capture and quantify the discrete variables related to ECCRC clients’ access, satisfaction, and wellness, while also lives. Concerning the timeline of the study, data collection began in June 2024 and will end in May 2025.
