The Compeer Program helps adults and overcome common effects of serious mental illness, such as loneliness, isolation and low self-esteem – through the power of friendship. Our volunteer-based programs and services, which serve as a complement to therapy, provide supportive friendships for people in mental-health care. The Program Coordinator will recruit and train volunteers, receive and screen referrals from mental health providers, and coordinate and support matches. The Pro Bono Counseling Network links low-income, uninsured and underinsured individuals with counselors who agree to serve on a pro bono basis. The Program Coordinator is responsible for recruiting counselors, performing telephone-based screenings, linking clients with counselors or other resources, tracking outcomes, developing office procedures, and reporting program data. Additionally, the Program Coordinator is responsible for establishing and coordinating training workshops for volunteer therapists. Skills and Abilities: Ability to quickly establish rapport with diverse clientele. Ability to assess clinical information quickly and accurately. Crisis intervention skills. Extensive knowledge of mental health disorders, DSM IV diagnosis and excellent judgment regarding treatment needs. Excellent writing and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in working with Microsoft software, including Word, Excel, and Power Point. Extensive knowledge of treatment resources in the Triangle, NC area Ability to work autonomously on day-to-day basis. Excellent organizational skills. Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Behavioral Health Field; Licensure (LCSW, LPC, or similar clinical license); Proficiency in Spanish language a plus.
